Kilnline is for people who want a dark cup that still tastes like coffee, not char. We take beans from Brazil and Sumatra into second crack and stop before the oils fully migrate to the surface, which keeps the cup bittersweet — dark chocolate, toasted nuts, a little molasses — without the ashy edge. Dark roasts are more porous and extract faster than light roasts, so grind a step coarser than you would for a medium and brew a touch cooler, around 195°F, to keep bitterness in check. It stands up well to milk and makes a rich, syrupy French press. Roast date on the bag; drink it within a month, because darker roasts stale faster than light ones once the bag is open.
