Grounds fall from a grinder in a loose mound, denser in some spots than others. Water finds those density differences and channels through the weak points, which is why two identically tamped shots can taste completely different. The Planum sits on the basket rim and, with two or three twists, its angled steel fins sweep the top of the bed flat and even before you tamp. The working depth adjusts by turning the threaded ring — set it so the fins just grade the surface without compressing it deeply; the tamper does the compacting. Machined to tight tolerances so it spins true with no wobble, and heavy enough to work under its own weight. Available in 54 mm and 58 mm to match your baskets.
