The Mahlwerk S48 is a single-dose grinder: instead of a hopper full of slowly staling beans, you weigh in exactly what you brew and the low-retention grind path sends nearly all of it into the wooden catch cup. That matters because ground coffee loses aromatics within minutes, and stale grounds trapped in a chute end up in tomorrow's cup. Its 48 mm hardened steel burrs turn at a modest RPM to limit heat, and a stepless external dial adjusts the gap smoothly from espresso-fine to press-coarse — small moves at the fine end make real changes in shot time. The anodized aluminum tower keeps the footprint under 13 cm wide. Burrs, sweep, and chute all come apart for cleaning with the included tools. Serviceable, not disposable.
