The Hausmahl 40 is the daily-driver electric for filter brewing. Hardened 40 mm steel conical burrs run through 40 stepped settings spanning fine moka territory to coarse cold brew, with the pour-over sweet spot — a texture near coarse sand — sitting comfortably mid-range. A gear-reduced motor keeps burr speed low, which limits heat transfer into the grounds; overheated grounds shed aromatics before they reach the brewer. The 250-gram hopper seals with a gasketed lid, and a timed dosing knob lets you repeat the same grind duration each morning. Grind consistency is the single biggest equipment upgrade for most home brewers, because even particles extract evenly. The burr carrier lifts out without tools for weekly brushing. Quiet enough not to wake the house.
