The Compatto S adds the two upgrades that matter most at this price: a PID temperature controller and a full 58 mm portafilter. The PID holds brew water within about a degree of your set point — adjustable from 90 to 96 °C — which removes the biggest hidden variable in light-roast espresso, where a couple of degrees changes sourness noticeably. The 58 mm basket takes an 18 g dose and shares its size with most third-party tampers, distribution tools, and precision baskets, so you are not locked into one ecosystem. Low-pressure pre-infusion wets the puck gently before full pressure, reducing channeling on less-than-perfect tamps. Still a single boiler, so brew first, steam second. Compact footprint, serviceable internals, standard parts throughout.
