A French press is immersion brewing at its simplest: coffee and water sit together, then a mesh plunger separates them. The Fireside does it with a borosilicate glass carafe in a stainless frame and a plunger whose fine mesh seals cleanly against the wall, so fewer fines slip past into your cup. Because the mesh passes coffee's natural oils that paper filters trap, press coffee drinks heavier and rounder than drip — that is the style, not a flaw. Use a coarse, even grind, water around 200°F, and 1:15 by weight; steep four minutes, skim the crust if you like a cleaner cup, and press slowly. The 600 ml makes two mugs, the liter makes four. Every part disassembles for washing.

The mesh lets some fines through, which is normal for a press, but you do get sludge at the bottom. Fine if you expect it.

Brews a good cup and looks lovely on the table, but glass loses heat quickly — the second cup is lukewarm unless you decant right away.
